Traveling while on vacation or just commuting in your own city using public transit has now become easier with the app UrbanGo. The familiar map icons and included tutorials get users primed to start their journey. Once you share your location within the app you can start routing your journey through the city you’re in or one that is soon to be home for a few days or weeks. It shows you the the available modes of public transportation around you whether it be scooter, city bike, buses, trains, trolleys, metros, rails, etc. Get to wherever you’d like by mapping it out ahead of time.

Spend less time worrying about when you need to debark let UrbanGo get you from point A to point B

For my first Ironhack Design Challenge I am asking UrbanGo users what they would like to see added as feature to make UrbanGo even better.

There were quite a few positives when interviewing UrbanGo Users. Their users seemed to consistently point out that they enjoyed the ease of determining the route as well as the built in notifications of when to get off at their stop. One area that users consistently agreed upon for improvement is that they would like the app to help users understand what, where and how to pay for their trip. Paying at a kiosk or on the train. Cash/Card??? Users would also enjoy a way to pay ahead of time.

From the information gathered, I would like to suggest the addition of a feature that would allow the user to Buy their tickets, once they’ve mapped out and selected their route. The addition of a “Buy tickets” button underneath the listed transit options and that could let users pay for the different legs of travel ahead of time and even an option to pay for round trip tickets. Giving the user an option to store their paid tickets in there phone’s wallet on the payment confirmation page would help to eliminate unnecessary clutter. In addition, when back on the home screen of the app where the “get me somewhere”option adding in another option below for “Planned/Purchased Trips ” will help users locate planned trips easier. Clicking into a trip will gain an expanded view of the trip with each leg of the trip and an added “share your itinerary with travel buddies” button.

The “Buy Tickets” Button Prototype

For this Design Challenge I was asked to Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype. It has been a steep learning curve from absorbing the readings and putting them into practice. Empathizing with my interviewees was enjoyable and even though they all identified the same issue that I centered my prototype around. There may be other features worth exploring as well. I also learned that Prototyping does not come easy to me. I do enjoy adding way to much detail to sketches. I will continue to practice and remind myself to sketch quickly and not to get attached. This prototyping module has been fun and I look forward to expanding upon what I’ve learned by doing this challenge.

I’ll leave you with the “More things to Consider” that were gathered because you may see something that shouldn’t have been overlooked.
